Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Hosts International Conference on Emerging Cryptography and Network Security Threats

The conference was graced by the presence of eminent keynote speakers from leading institutes and organizations. Some of the distinguished speakers were Dr. Satya Jeet Singh, Dr. Arvind Yadav, Dr. Gaurav Mittal, and Mr. Sunil Kumar of DRDO and University of Delhi. Industrial representatives like Mr. Anil Achoora of IBM, Mr. Sridhar Dachepelly of Dell Technologies (USA), and Mr. Vishnu Lakkamraju of Adobe (USA) presented their industry insights.

The first lecture of the conference was delivered by Dr. K. P. Singh, a Senior Scientist at DRDO, and he focused on the significance of intellectual property rights to spur innovations for cybersecurity advancements.

Deliberations on recent developments in cryptography, especially the imminent risks from quantum computer technologies, were some of the conference’s main focal points. Post-quantum cryptographic developments (which include lattice, hash based and code-based approaches) have been identified as the central areas for resiliency against quantum computers. Quantum Key Distribution, AI-based threat assessments, IoT Security, Blockchain Security, and Zero Trust are additional focus areas.

Discussion about the uses of artificial intelligence for cybersecurity and its inherent risk was also an area of significant focus during the conference. There was a strong emphasis on the need for systems to embrace crypto-agility and migration strategies to deal with the future impacts of quantum computer technologies on cryptosystems.

Both research institutions and academic institutions were well represented at the conference, as were professionals from various industries within India and outside India. The technical talks, discussions, and papers that were presented provided numerous opportunities for sharing information and for cross-disciplinary interactions.

This conference was organized under the guidance of Chief Patron, Swami Nijamritananda Puri, patronized by Dr. P. Venkat Rangan, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor; Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Dean, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Faridabad; and Prof. Praveen Bist, Assistant Registrar. Co-Patron of this conference was Dr. Lakshmi Mohandas, Principal, while Chair (Convener) of this conference was Dr. Dharminder Chaudhary, Research Head.

Among the main conclusions reached at the conference were that development of quantum-safe cryptographic algorithms and network security systems was imperative, and that cooperation between the academic and industry sectors was necessary to develop secure cyber infrastructures for the future.
