VIDYUT 2023: A Grand Celebration of Talent and Innovation

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, successfully hosted VIDYUT 2023, the much-awaited national-level multi-fest, on May 5, 6, and 7, 2023. Bringing together young minds from across the country, the three-day extravaganza featured an exciting lineup of competitions, workshops, invited talks, scientific sessions, cultural shows, exhibitions, and entertainment. With its focus on society, environment, and sustainability, VIDYUT 2023 witnessed enthusiastic participation from numerous colleges in India, making it an unforgettable experience. 

VIDYUT 2023 embraced the theme of Civil20 (C20), an engagement group under G20, with the tagline “You Are the Light”. This theme, symbolizing hope, self-motivation, and selfless service, aligned with the vision of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the Chair of Civil20 India. The event highlighted key C20 themes, including education and digital transformation, gender equality, holistic health, sustainable communities, and technology security. 

The grand launch of VIDYUT 2023 took place on March 8, 2023, at Amritapuri Campus, inaugurated by Karthik Surya, a renowned YouTuber and social media influencer from Kerala. The event featured a reveal video and multi-cultural performances by students, setting the stage for the grand festival ahead. Nadham Kalasamithy’s Chendamelam and the Vaikhari music band added energy and enthusiasm to the evening. Speaking at the event, Karthik Surya praised the students for their dedication in organizing such a spectacular event. 

To build excitement leading up to the main festival, five Pre-Vidyut events were conducted: 

1. Walkathon (March 9, 2023) – A walk promoting gender equality and disability awareness, with 400+ participants. 
2. Talk on “Understanding Female Psychology” (March 21, 2023) – Delivered by Shabana Madathil, addressing the importance of mental and physical health. 
3. Talk on “Decoding the Health vs Fitness Myth” (April 5, 2023) – Led by Rajiv Ambat, CEO of Nuvovivo. 
4. RASOI – Cookery Show (April 13, 2023) – Featuring YouTube’s Salu’s Kitchen fame, Sameera Nizaruddin. 
5. Transcending Conversations (April 21, 2023) – Moderated by Dr. Bhavani Rao, UNESCO Chair. 

VIDYUT 2023 showcased over 25+ competitions and exciting workshops, including:

• Inditown Food Stall – Live cooking experiences for volunteers and students. 

• Kalaripayattu Workshop – An introduction to India’s ancient martial art. 

• Pot Making Workshop – Promoting traditional pottery and its health benefits. 

• Varna Pratibha – A creative exhibition featuring paintings, crafts, and handmade art. 

• Paper Marbling Workshop – A unique art experience fostering collaboration and creativity. 

• GitaGPT – A student-developed website offering life guidance based on the Bhagavad Gita using AI. 

• Kalakruthi – A live mural art display showcasing the richness of Indian art. 

• Fitomatic – A platform for free health checkups, promoting physical fitness. 

• Honey Stall – Featuring the special “Honey Cola” and a variety of honey-based products. 

VIDYUT 2023 saw participation from over 300 colleges and schools, attracting a footfall of more than 20,000 attendees. With ₹15 lakh in prize money, students competed in engineering, sciences, robotics, gaming, business incubation, photography, short filmmaking, and more. A total of 30 stalls were set up, with 27 dedicated to various exhibitions and 3 for the Auto Show, adding to the excitement of the event. 

With its perfect blend of education, culture, innovation, and social impact, VIDYUT 2023 left a lasting impression on all attendees. As a platform fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and sustainable development, the event upheld the philosophical tradition of India, empowering youth to be the light that leads society toward a brighter future.
