Amrita School of Agricultural Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, celebrated World Soil Day 2019 on December 5, 2019. This year, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, created awareness to protect the soil through a global campaign on the theme “Stop Soil Erosion and Save our Future”.

As a part of the program, B. Sc (Hons.) Agriculture students presented posters, collected soil samples for analysis, planted trees and participated in a quiz event organized on the theme. Dr. Paikattumana Sureshkumar (Principal, School of Agricultural Sciences, Coimbatore and a well known soil scientist) delivered a special lecture on “Healthy Soil for a Healthy Life” and Dr. Sudheesh Manalil (Head of Research, School of Agricultural Sciences, Coimbatore) gave a talk on “Conservation Agriculture”. The Principal appreciated the students’ work and activities towards ‘Soil Day 2019’ and recognized the students with prizes for different events.
