Amrita Students Win Prizes at 7th National Conference SILEX 2019

B. Sc. and M. Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology students of Amrita Health Sciences Campus, Kochi, won prizes at various competitions held in connection with SILEX 2019, 7th National Conference, conducted by the Students Association of Medical Laboratory Technologists (SAMT). The event was held at MIMS Calicut, from December 13-14, 2019.

Prof. T. K. Raman Memorial Oration Award for Amrita Faculty

Dr. Gopalakrishna Pillai M. (Professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi), received the Prof. T. K. Raman Memorial Oration Award for presenting “Immune Mediated Disorders” at the 44th Annual  Conference of Association of Physicians of India, Kerala Chapter, held at Quilon, from January 18-19, 2020.

Amrita Doctor Trained in Advanced Cardiovascular MRI at Red Cross Hospital, Lisbon

Dr. Hisham Ahamed, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Project Lead at the Amrita Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, underwent Advanced Cardiovascular MRI Training, with a focus on the imaging of cardiomyopathies, ischemic heart disease, cardio-oncology and heart failure and transplantation over the period of two weeks at the prestigious cardiac imaging program at the Heart Center, Red Cross Hospital, Lisbon, Portugal, during November 1-15, 2019.

Faculty Member Attends 11th Annual Conference of Science and Non-Duality, California

Dr. Sivakumar V., faculty member and coordinator in Research/Genomics, Department of Health System Research, Amrita Health Sciences Campus, Kochi, attended the 11th Annual Conference of Science and Non-Duality (SAND19 US) from October 23-27, 2019, held at San Jose, California, USA. The highlight of this year’s program was the talk and panel discussion by Swami Sarvapriyananda, of the Vedanta Society of New York and currently at the Harvard School of Divinity. 

From Neglect to Equity – Lymphatic Filariasis Morbidity Management and Rehabilitation – an Indian Experience

Among neglected tropical diseases, lymphatic filariasis remains dominant due to its disabling and disfiguring manifestations. One of the disturbing features of this disease is that the majority of the diseased are in their advanced old age and are the poorest of the poor. 

Amrita Doctor Delivers Guest Lectures at 5th Annual Scientific Meeting of MABIP, Malaysia

Dr. Tinku Joseph (Consultant Interventional Pulmonologist, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences) was invited to deliver guest lectures on (a) Rigid Bronchoscopy (b) Airway Stenting in TE Fistula and (c) Role of Cryobiopsy in ILD, at the 5th Annual Scientific Meeting of Malaysian Association of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology (MABIP), held during October 18-20, 2019, at Malaysia.

Kerala State Renewable Energy Research Award for Amrita

On November 11, 2019, the Kerala State Renewable Energy Award in the category of Research and Innovation was presented to the Kochi campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, by Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Pinnarayi Vijayan on behalf of ANERT, the Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technologies, at a function held in Trivandrum.

ICMR -CNMC STS Excellence Award for Amrita MBBS Student

Dr. Cinzia S. Keechilot, 2012 MBBS student, received the ICMR, Calcutta National Medical College (CNMC) Short Term Studentship (STS) Excellence Award 2017, from Dr. Harsh Vardhan (Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India) at ICMR Awards Ceremony at the ICMR HQ, New Delhi, on October 16, 2019.
