With the guidance of our beloved Chancellor Amma, the first Amrita School of Engineering was started in 1994 in Coimbatore. In 2002, two additional Schools of Engineering were established in Amritapuri and Bengaluru. All three Schools offer B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs in a large number of disciplines. Outstanding students aspiring for careers in engineering, from across the country and abroad are enrolled in the three Schools. ASE has an excellent faculty student ratio which is well above the national norms.

Our Chancellor Amma emphasizes the importance of research activities at the three Schools of Engineering. Research projects aim to benefit humanity in some way, and the research is usually undertaken in collaboration with industry, academia and government. The projects enjoy support from international and national partners including the European Commission, DST, TIFAC, ISRO, DRDO, Ministry of Information Technology. Expert and experienced faculty members on the campus guide the students to achieve academic excellence through co-curricular activities such as technical projects, symposiums, programing contest and presenting research papers in India and aboard. All three Schools have seen a phenomenon of “brain-gain” vs the more conventional "brain-drain", where-in highly qualified people from the West have moved back to India inspired by Amma's vision.
The Amrita Corporate & Industry Relations strives to achieve excellent placement of students each year. A proven track record of consistent high quality placements year-on-year is one of the reasons for many bright students opting for admissions in amrita. Placements for students of Engineering, Arts and Sciences and Allied courses are handled by one group of experts with Head placement at the top, with support from Placement Managers positioned at other campuses.
Vidyut is a three-day national level inter-collegiate multi-fest, organized by the students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus. The footfall crosses 20,000 and participation of more than 300 colleges and schools, this fest has come a long way from its humble inception in 2012.
