Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was featured in the ArcGIS Newsletter (April 2021, Volume 15), published by ESRI.

Development and data are highly interdependent, and both are necessary for mankind to make sustainable progress. GIS brings a whole new dimension to this duo, called precision. It is a ground-breaking technology that has made it possible for us to revisit and interpret data in different ways.

Amrita’s initiative to inculcate GIS in its curriculum has led to a cooperative partnership with Esri India. This partnership will leverage GIS applications for various research initiatives at Amrita. A Center of Excellence in the area of “Geoinformatics and Spatial Analytics & Modelling” will be established at Amrita with dedicated Research, Development and Test facilities. The center will focus on capacity building for geospatial research in several domains.

The Third Annual Meeting of UNESCO Chairs in India, conducted by UNESCO New Delhi, was attended by Dr. Maneesha V. Ramesh (UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation and Development, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) and Dr. Bhavani Rao R. (UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham).

Amrita re-elected as World Center of Excellence for Landslide Risk Reduction for 2020-2023. Since 2017, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has been a ‘World Centre of Excellence on Landslide Disaster Reduction’ awarded by the International Program on Landslides (IPL).

Amrita Researchers Receive US Patent - IoT Wearable Devices for Monitoring Patients' Health

Amrita Center for Wireless Networks & Applications (AmritaWNA) received a US patent for its innovative IoT wearable devices for patient monitoring. The researchers at AmritaWNA in collaboration with the doctors at Amrita’s super-specialty AIMS hospital in Kochi developed these state-of-art devices and smart disease detection algorithms.
