An Article on Role of Remittances in India's Economy by Amrita Professor

In an article in Deccan Herald, Mr. T. K. Jayaraman, the Adjunct Professor, Amrita Business School, Bengaluru Campus, explained the report on Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s Survey of Inward remittances for 2016-17, which was released in early August 2018. He described that the report has triggered interest in the role of remittances in India’s economy.

Professor Dr. Amalendu Jothishi and Assistant Professor Dr. Deepika M. G. of Amrita School of Business, Bengaluru campus, along with another student from Azim Premji University, have shed light on the growing demand for water and how the poorer sections of the city have managed to adapt to the crisis. While it is undeniable that inadequate supply of potable water affects all, it is the poor and marginalised who are the most affected in a situation of scarcity. Not only do they end up paying more to access potable water, but the fact that they have to deal with irregular public water supply in their neighbourhoods is also a source of conflict.
