Amrita is conducting humanitarian oriented research to provide cost-efficient water filtration solutions to the villages in India. One of these projects is a water desalination unit. It filtrates impurities by replicating the natural cycle, where air and natural heat are used for vapourising, dehumidifying and finally collecting water. Energy has a significant importance in elevating the lives of people all around the world. Students of Amrita have done field work in an empoverished village of the state of Bihar, and identified Energy as the most problematic problem area over there. Using the most advancing technologies, it was determined that a modernized smokeless Chulha, or smokeless stove, can be designed.
