Amrita Students Devise an Efficient Method to Convert Plastic Waste to Fuel

The Students from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, had devised a method to convert plastic waste in to fuel. “The waste is decomposed at very high temperatures in the absence of oxygen. It is converted into pyrolysis oil, which can be used as industrial fuel or refined to obtain petrol. By-product char can be used to make carbon fibres," said Alluri Sharanya and R. K. Hariharan.

They were showcasing their innovation at National Science and Technology Fair 2019 organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore.
