Gender Equality and Women Empowerment is one of UNESCO’s global priorities. To exercise the basic human right of gender equality, women across the world require equal access to education, employment, and basic services. Presently, women lack access to these basic requirements for a variety of reasons due to various local cultural and socio-economic influences, geography, legal structures, etc.
In the fall of 2016, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was honored with the prestigious UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for India. The official inauguration took place on October 30, 2016, in Paris, France, during a program led by the institution’s Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (AMMA), before an audience of 8,000 people. This landmark event marked a new chapter for Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
Education must attempt to nurture the holistic development of human beings.
