Dr. Preetha P. K. serves as Vice Chairperson and Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the Amrita School of Engineering at the Amritapuri Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Her research focuses on the broad area of Power and Energy with special emphasis on Power quality and FACTS. Her research on zero sequence harmonics in distribution transformers led to the development of a novel method for recovering and utilizing the power that is usually wasted as circulating harmonics in the delta winding of a transformer.

Dr. Preetha’s current research interest is in Electric Vehicles – SRM traction drive, torque pulse minimization in SRM, on-board integrated charging, V2G, and G2V charging, offshore floating charging station for marine transportation; Smart Grids- power flow control in smart microgrids, Ship-board smart microgrids, peer to peer energy trading in a smart community; Renewable Energy Systems- Grid Integration of RES, inertia emulation techniques etc.

Dr. Preetha received the Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Master of Technology in Power Systems with distinction from Govt. College of Engineering, Trivandrum. She earned her Ph. D. from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Dr. Preetha joined as Faculty in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amritapuri, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in 2007 after nine years of teaching position in various capacities at Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Navi Mumbai and Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore.

Dr. Preetha serves as a reviewer of research publications for various International Journals. She has also served as a technical committee member and reviewer for many IEEE and other international conferences organized by Amrita and other Institutions.
