Economic Environment and its Constituents – Types of Economies: Free, Capitalist, Socialistic, and Mixed Economy – The New Economic Policy – Monetary Policy & Fiscal Policy– Role of Foreign Investments: Private Foreign Investment, Types of FDI- Contemporary policy initiatives: Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Startup India, Make in India – Regulatory frameworks: Role of RBI, SEBI, and other authorities in shaping the economic environment. 

Unit 3

Social and Cultural Environment: Nature, Impact of Foreign Culture on Business, Traditional Values and their Impact – Social Audit: Meaning and Importance – Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility of Business – Technological Environment: Features, Impact of Technology on Business – Emerging frameworks: ESG norms, sustainability mandates, and environmental regulations impacting businesses.

Objectives and Outcomes

Course Objectives 

  1. To understand the meaning, scope, and objectives of business and examine the micro and macro environmental factors influencing business decisions. 
  2. To analyse the components of the economic environment, including fiscal and monetary policies, foreign investments, and key national initiatives shaping India’s economic landscape. 
  3. To evaluate the social, cultural, ethical, and technological forces affecting business operations, sustainability, CSR, and ESG frameworks. 
  4. To understand key legal and political frameworks governing businesses, including industrial policies and major regulatory statutes. 
  5. To explore consumer protection mechanisms, SEZs, and contemporary global regulatory developments affecting international business. 


Course Outcomes
 

  1. Identify and evaluate business environment factors and apply environmental analysis for strategic decision-making. 
  2. Explain and interpret economic policies, regulatory roles, and the impact of foreign investments on India’s economic structure. 
  3. Demonstrate understanding of social, cultural, ethical, and technological influences on business, sustainability, and corporate responsibility. 
  4. Interpret major legal, industrial, and regulatory frameworks and assess their effect on business functioning and compliance. 
  5. Analyse issues related to consumerism, SEZs, and global regulatory frameworks and apply them to real-world business and trade contexts.

Lecture, Group Discussion, PowerPoint Presentation etc. as per the requirement of each module.
