Bio

Dr. S. V. B. K. V. Gupta currently serves as Assistant Professor (Sr.Gr) in Sanskrit at Amrita Darshanam (International Centre for Spiritual Studies) at Amaravati campus.

He holds a doctoral degree in Sanskrit from Pondicherry University. His doctoral thesis “A Critical edition of Kumāradāsa’s Jānakīharaṇa (Up to 7th Canto)” was completed under the supervision of Prof. K E Dharaneedharan. It is a Mahākāvya critically edited up to 7th Canto (until Janaki’s marriage). Prior to that, Dr. Gupta completed his M.Phil in Śābdabodha Systems & Language Technologies at the University of Hyderabad.

He worked as a researcher for the ANR, France sponsored project: “Pāṇini and Paninéens in the 16th and 17th centuries (pp16-17.org)”, under Prof. Jan E M Houben. He then worked as a post-doctoral researcher of The Haṭhayoga Project (hyp.soas.ac.uk/team) sponsored by European Research Council for SOAS, University of London from École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO), Pondicherry, India. He also worked as a guest faculty at the Department of Sanskrit, Pondicherry University (2016-17, 2018-19).

He is an editorial board member of Journal of Indian Languages and Literature (Joill.in). Currently he is collaborating with Dr. Jason Birch, post-doctoral researcher, on the Haṭhayoga Project at SOAS, University of London, with the primary objective on editing and translating an unpublished text called the Yogārṇava.

Dr. Gupta works on unpublished Sanskrit manuscripts, Yoga and Pāṇini’s grammar.
