Syllabus

 

  1. Computer Fundamentals – Introduction to Computers, history of computers,
  2. Identifying different parts of the computers

Input output devices: Input devices(keyboard, point and draw devices, data scanning devices, digitizer, electronic card reader, voice recognition devices, vision-input devices), output devices(monitors, pointers, plotters, screen image projector, voice response systems).

Processor and memory: The Central Processing Unit (CPU), main memory.

Storage Devices: Sequential and direct access devices, magnetic tape, magnetic disk, optical disk, mass storage devices.

  1. Introduction of windows: History, features, desktop, taskbar, icons on the desktop, operation with folder, creating shortcuts, operation with windows (opening, closing, moving, resizing, minimizing and maximizing, etc.).
  2. Customize the Desktop Environment e.g. Desktop, Start Menu, and Taskbar etc. Configuring & Migrating Files, Folders & Settings – Folder Views, Accessibility Settings, Locate and retrieve files in various directories
  3. Basic computer functions: Save the same file in multiple locations (flash drive, My Documents, network folders), Recognize and save files in various formats (.bmp, .jpg, .pdf, .html, etc.), Creating folders for file organizations, Rename files, Delete files, Printer functions, Page set up features, Setup and use of peripheral devices such as scanners, digital cameras, and projection devices, Multitask by using Task Bar , Troubleshoot common technology problems
  4. Key Board: Getting familiarized with the key board, key board functions (including special function keys)
  5. Concept of Operating system – introduction, operating system concepts,
  6. types ofoperating system. windows XP, Exploring & Configuring the Windows XP, desktop environment – customize the desktop, start menu, and taskbar etc;.configuring & migrating files, folders
  7. Settings – Folder Views, Accessibility Settings Features of Windows XP
  8. MS Word -Introduction, components of a word window, creating, openingand inserting files, editing a document file, page setting and formatting the text, saving thedocument, spell checking, printing the document file, creating and editing of table, mail merge.
  9. MS Excel – Creating, Analyzing& Formatting Data & Content Collaborating – Insert, View, Edit etc. Managing Workbooks, printing the worksheet, creating graphs.
  10. MS Power Point -introduction, creating and manipulating presentation, views,formatting and enhancing text, slide with graphs.
  11. Creating & Formatting Content Collaborating – Track, Edit,Add, Delete Comments, Merge Managing & Delivering Presentations
  12. Internet Concepts – Internet and its Applications: definition, brief history, basic services (E-Mail, File Transfer Protocol, telnet, the World Wide Web (WWW)), www browsers, use of the internet. Opening websites and downloading data, Writing, reading and sending emails
  13. Understanding concepts of URL- Creating and Opening an E-mail account. Receiving and sending emails Searching information on Internet, understanding risks and safety with computers and internet
  14. Computer networks: introduction, types of network (LAN, MAN, WAN, Internet, Intranet), network topologies (star, ring, bus, mesh, tree, hybrid), components of network.
  15. Application of Computers in clinical settings

 This course is designed for students to develop basic understanding of use of computer and its applications in Clinical Departments
