Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, is part of the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (SSBS), bringing together academic learning, research, and applied approaches to understanding human behaviour, mental wellbeing, and psychological development.

The Department offers programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the B.Sc. Psychology (Honours) with Research and the PG Diploma in Counselling Psychology. Together, these programmes provide students with a strong foundation in psychological science while developing practical knowledge and skills relevant to counselling, mental wellbeing, research, and human services.

Students also benefit from Amrita’s wider healthcare and mental wellbeing ecosystem, including the Manolayam Counselling Centre and Amrita Hospitals. This broader ecosystem provides opportunities to connect academic learning with real-world perspectives on psychological wellbeing, counselling, healthcare, and human services.

Located within an interdisciplinary academic environment, the Department encourages students to understand individuals and communities from multiple perspectives and to apply psychological knowledge to real-world challenges.
