About seminar:

Mr. Tore Lindstrom, Head of Robotics Business from ABB had given a session on Industrial Robots and Applications, after the inauguration of ABB lab, the first of its kind by an Indian university, was inaugurated at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amritapuri Campus) on February 25th , 2015. The state of the art lab is expected to herald a new era for robotics research and academics in India. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s AMMACHI Labs has collaborated with ABB Robotics for setting up the Robotics Research Lab with two ROS-Industrial robots. The first batch of Robotics and Automation students, researchers and faculty of Amrita had an opportunity to attend the seminar, which was interactive. He has more than 30 years of industrial experience in the field of robotics and automation. Ammachi labs, a research lab at Amrita University, Amritapuri campus hosted this oneday program.

Objectives:

Mr. Tore’s interactive session aims to teach and introduce the students about the working of industrial robotics, current, and future applications and how these robots are applied in real life scenarios.

Outcomes:

In the session, Mr. Tore discussed the industrial robots and why ABB invested the money in this area. By introducing the typical applications in modern technology he taught the requirements robotics. So that their huge investments are very much meaningful. He also talked about the different divisions about the ABB robotics and so that researchers could understand the nature of the industrial company. The applications like industrial, military, medical are he explained very well and students can think more on their perspective. The two ABB industrial robots, IRB 1600 and IRB 1520 will provide engineering students an opportunity enter a fields in industrial robotics such as manufacturing and automation to the automotive, aerospace, medical and leisure and entertainment industries. The sessions cooperated with quality working videos and that gave the practical experience to the audience. The sessions were very interactive and most of the students asked questions and their doubts related to robotics. Some of the robotics especially, the working performance of the pick and place robots are very impressive.

Conclusion:

As we know, today, over 90% of all robotics applications are industrial and ABB is one of the oldest and most reputed robotics companies globally. So knowledge from them about the industrial robotics was very informative and useful. Students and researchers got different research areas and different working domains after this session. Mr. Tore commented about Amrita University after impressed by our program: “The spirit and love here is something unique that I have not seen in other universities. The fact that I’ve seen so many inspiring women in top positions and many women students in Engineering is impressive. The big difference is that you bring initiatives down to the root to make it happen. It’s not just all theories.
