Dr. Helge Wurdemann, King’s College, London gave an interactive session at Amrita University, Amritapuri campus. The first and second batches of the Robotics and Automation MTech program, researchers and faculty of Amrita attended the seminar. He is the leader of the Haptics Lab and Soft Robotics at the centre of Robotics Research. He is also the coordinator and leader of research activities within the EU FP7 project STIFF-FLOP. He has a PhD in Mechatronics and Robotics. His research interests include the design and creation of new bio-inspired, soft and stiffness controllable technologies for medical and haptic devices and robotic art.
The talk was about the Centre for Robotics (CoRe) which is one of six highly esteemed research groups in the Department for Informatics, Kings College, London. The emphasis was on a selected number of projects that are operating across the labs in an interdisciplinary way which included sensing systems, pseudo-haptics, medical robotics and reconfigurable robotics.
In the session, Dr. Helge Wurdemann discussed on the various projects that are underway at Centre for Robotics (CoRe), Department for Informatics, Kings College, London. He explained in detail the interdisciplinary projects at the centre. The technical difficulties and challenging one phase in conducting such projects were also discussed. The sensing systems, pseudo-haptics, medical robotics and reconfigurable robotics were the project in the lab that he highlighted. The sessions were interactive and most of the students asked questions related to the projects at the lab. To complete the talk Dr. Helge Wurdemann played videos that showed the research projects at the centre and it was very impressive and an eye opener for many.
Cultivating interest into research and to know how to face the challenges and move forward is very crucial. It is also very important to be able to pass on this to the students. The talk from Dr. Helge Wurdemann brought about an exposure into how research is being conducted in one of the leading robotics centres in the world. Dr. Helge Wurdemann was impressed by the Robotics and Automation MTech program run by Amrita University. He gave time for the students to show him demo of their work and also gave advice on how they could improve their work and publish their findings.
