Amrita Mind Brain Center investigators participated at the healthcare summit held at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad

Amrita Mind Brain Center investigators Dr. Shyam Diwakar, Director, Dr. Anand Kumar, Head of the Department of Neurology, Dr. Siby Gopinath, Professor, Neurology participated at this healthcare summit and met with the heads of top US universities.

International Summit on Health Innovation, Grand Challenges & Global Collaborations saw high-profile University leaders from the top US Universities meet at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad.

The three-day high-level International Summit on Health Innovation, Grand Challenges & Global Collaborations was held August 22-24, 2022 at the Amrita Hospital, Faridabad campus (Delhi NCR). The Amrita event included a day of collaborative synergy round tables, a day of panel discussions and a third day that included the inauguration of the Hospital by Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by meeting with Hon. President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

The summit was attended by heads of top US universities including Dr. Pradeep Khosla, President of the University of California San Diego, Dr. Satish Tripathi, President and Dr. Allison Brashear, Vice-President of the State University of New York at Buffalo, Dr. Robert Clayton Robbins, President of the University of Arizona, Dr. Prashant Mohapatra, Vice Chancellor for Research, University of California Davis and directors, professors and department heads from Stanford University, Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians. Harvard Medical School, University of Arizona, University at Buffalo, UC Davis and UC San Diego.

Day 1 of the summit held August 22 had several collaboration synergy round tables. Dr. Prashant Mohapatra, Vice Chancellor for Research at University of California Davis chaired a session between Amrita-UC Davis addressing on extensions to our collaborations in research and education. Round table discussions with Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP), Stanford University, University at Buffalo, University of Arizona, Harvard Medical School (HMS) were held. The invited guests also met with Amrita Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) and discussed on research and education perspectives for Amrita and India. Based on the unique theme of synergy, the summit addressed collaborations for research and education.

Dr. Pradeep Khosla, Chancellor, University of Calfornia, San Diego chaired the Grand Challenges and Global Partnerships, as our opening panel discussion on August 23, 2022. Dr. Mounir Soliman of UC San Diego co-chaired the panel. The panel was joined by Dr. Satish K. Tripathi, 15th president of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Robert Clayton Robbins, the 22nd and current president of The University of Arizona. Dr. Venu Govindaraju, Vice President for Research and Economic Development, University at Buffalo and Dr. Liesl Folks, Senior Vice President and Provost at the University of Arizona.

The panel on grand challenges: precision medicine (including wearables) was chaired by Dr. Michael Paul Snyder, Chair, Dept. of Genetics and Director, Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine, Stanford University. The panel also included Dr. Satya Krishna Ramachandran, HMFP, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Timothy Thomas Cornell, Professor, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Stanford University, and Dr. Shriram Nallamshetty, Stanford University.

Dr. Shriram Nallamshetty of Stanford Medicine chaired the Amrita-Stanford panel on cardiology. Dr. Amy Sitapati, UC San Diego Health chaired the Amrita-UC San Diego: EMR and Data panel. Dr. Rohit Loomba, UC San Diego chaired Amrita-UC San Diego: EMR and Data panel. Dr. Howard H Feldman, UC San Diego chaired the Amrita – UCSD: Neurosciences panel. Dr. Janko Nikolich-Zugich, Department Head, Immunology, College of Medicine, University of Arizona chaired the Amrita-University of Arizona: Infectious Diseases & Immunology panel. Dr. Allison Brashear, Vice President, University at Buffalo chaired the Amrita-UB Neuro – Rehabilitation panel. Grand challenge: oncology panel was chaired by Dr. Gokul Das, Professor of Oncology, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. The oncology panel also included Dr. Akash Patnaik, University of Chicago and Dr. Sant Chawla, University of California Los Angeles. The panel on Global Partnership: International Institute for Health Innovation and Executive Education (II4HI) was chaired by Dr. Satya Krish Ramachandran and included Dr. Daniel Talmor, Dr. Kristen Beech, and Dr. Victor Novack from the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The panel was co-chaired by Dr. Ajay Singh and Dr. Sayeed Malek of the Harvard Medical School.

On August 24, the invited guests also participated at the launch of the Amrita Hospital, Faridabad by Hon. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Some of the University leaders from the US personally met with Prime Minister Modi. Later that day, the invited guests also visited and met with Hon. President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

The summit was organized and coordinated by Vice Chancellor, Dr. Venkat Rangan. Dr. Prem Nair, Provost, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and our Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences and Dr. Maneesha Ramesh, Provost of Strategic Initiatives, Research and Innovation also co-hosted the summit. Amrita registrar, Dr. Sankaran, Deans, Principals and faculty members were part of the summit. The summit also had talks from Swami Dayamritananda Puri, Director, MA Centers, USA and Prof. Karen Sneha Moawad, Associate Dean, International Programs and CEO, Hummingbird Associates, USA. The welcome event had an address by Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Resident Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad.

During the summit, an “Amrita Innovations In Healthcare” Exhibition was held to showcase exceptional research and #innovations in multi-disciplinary areas and highlighted Amrita centers, projects, teams with work outcomes of significant benefit to the field of healthcare and medicine
