Job Description

This position supports the ICSSR-funded longitudinal research project "From Multi-Hazard Risk to Resilience: A Longitudinal Social Science Study on DRR Policy, Communication Strategies, and Resilience Planning in Sikkim."


The project investigates disaster risk perception, community preparedness, infrastructure resilience, governance, policy implementation, and risk communication across hazard-prone regions of Sikkim through mixed-methods research conducted over multiple years.


Key Responsibilities


Research & Field Implementation



  • Conduct household surveys, FGDs, and KIIs in Mangan and Gangtok districts.

  • Facilitate PRA exercises and community mapping.

  • Coordinate seasonal repeat surveys and stakeholder consultations.


Tenure: a five-year ICSSR-funded longitudinal research project. The initial appointment will be for one year and is renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and project requirements.


Service Commitment: Selected candidates will be required to sign a minimum two-year service bond.


Field Sites: Mangan and Gangtok districts, Sikkim, with periodic travel to other regions across Sikkim for field surveys, stakeholder consultations, and documentation.



  • Candidates currently residing in the North-East region of India, or willing to relocate to Sikkim/the North-East for the duration of the project, will be preferred.

  • The position requires extensive and repeated field travel across Sikkim, particularly the Mangan and Gangtok districts, as part of longitudinal household surveys, stakeholder consultations, community engagement activities, and field documentation.

  • Applicants should be comfortable working in remote mountainous terrain, undertaking multi-day field visits, and interacting with diverse communities and local stakeholders .
